New-Age Portable Space Heaters, and Safe Electric Heaters.

Reduce your high energy bills with an Electric Heater

With colder weather coming on, our thoughts turn to keeping our homes warm. One of the more energy efficient and popular ways of doing this is through baseboard electric heaters. Here’s a look at why these heaters make sense.

One of the biggest environmental benefits of baseboard electric heaters is how clean they run. They run on electricity and not oil or gas. Not only does that make them more efficient, but it also makes them less costly to operate and heat your home.

Another reason why many avoid using systems with oil or gas is the convenience. You will not need a home delivery of oil or someone to come out and fill up your LP tank. Add in the price volatility and you can quickly see how it can get out of control. Who even knows what the future will hold when it comes to oil costs?

A personal example was what happened to us a couple of years ago. We had an oil burning furnace at the time and planned on having it filled up. We were told the price for filling it up, but because oil suddenly spiked during the week before delivery, we were forced to pay $200 more for it. It was at that time that we knew we needed to go with a different heating source.

Baseboard heaters can be spread throughout your home and disperse heat where you need it most. These systems use convection heating to spread hot air throughout any room. Since these heaters since down low to the ground, heat slowly rises and provides a more comfortable atmosphere.

Do Most Electric Space Heaters Put Out The Same Amount Of Heat?

Posted by VinnyChase On November - 1 - 2009

I was recently shopping for electric space heaters at Walmart. I notice they range in price from $14-$60. All of the heaters were 1500 watts no matter what the brand or size of the heater. Since they are all 1500 watts are they putting out the same amount of heat? Can I get the same heat out of a $14 heater as I could get from say a $40 one?

Portable Heaters?

Posted by VinnyChase On November - 1 - 2009

I have a “strip” heater in my central air system and while I live in north Florida it does get pretty cold. Would I save on power bills if I set the thermistat to 65 or so and used a portable heater in the room I am in? My heating bills are higher than my ac bill.

Space Heaters?

Posted by VinnyChase On November - 1 - 2009

I need answers only from those who have had to use space heaters please so the answers will be first hand from people who have used them. My house has no heat right now because my furnace went out Hopefully it will be fixed on the first but that is besides the point. Right now I have to use a space heater to heat up my house. I live in a small mobile home so both my living room and kitchen can heat up with only one heater. My living room is about 12 by 16 and kitchen about 12 by 12. I want to know if my electric will be going up sky high because I have my heater running from about 1am until 4pm when I leave for work and unplug it. Im on a budget plan on my electric meaning I pay the same amount each month until settlement month in may. I live in southeast Michigan. I heard alot of people say that my bill will be way up there, some say it may go up but not by much as the newer models are no different than using an airconditioner, some say I wont even notice a difference. Help
